The Kyocera Hydro Elite launches with Verizon! It seems that every day there is a new waterproof, shock proof or otherwise all around rugged smart phone to hit the market. A small niche that built its roots in smaller, traditionally non smart phones like the Rugby’s and original G’zOne’s has taken to the mainstream with much anticipation as devices like the Galaxy S4 Active and most recently the not so flagship ZTE Reef. Today, a new ruggedized handset has officially made its way to the shores of Verizon’s shelves and it goes by the name of the Kyocera Hydro Elite.

The Kyocera Hydro Elite was first brought into the lime light earlier this month when a host of leaks showed off Verizon’s game plan in launching the LG Enact, Samsung Convoy 3, LG Exalt and of course the Kyocera Hydro Elite. Way back in May however Kyocera announced their Hydro Edge and Hydro XTRM and it seems as if the Elite is a fine follow up to these water proof cousins. Today Verizon has confirmed the launch and ultimately the existence of the Hydro Elite and are set to launch the handset August 29th alongside the highly acclaimed Moto X. The Hydro Elite is set to cost about $100 bucks under the terms of a new contract of course and only after a fifty dollar mail in rebate. So what can you expect for that sort of scratch? Well, a lot actually. The handset comes running with the likes of Android version 4.1 and gives its users access via an excellent 4.3 inch 1280×720 HD touch screen. Internally it comes running with a highly capable 1.5 GHz dual core processor and offers expandable micro SD support up to 32 GB. Additional tech specs are currently unknown. Additionally however the Hydro Elite will come packing an 8 mega pixel rear facing camera while a 1.3 mega pixel shooter can be found up front.  Other features include 4G LTE, a Smart Sonic Receiver, Touch-and-Send NFC, Eco Mode and a more than capable 2100 mAh battery. Oh, and let’s not forget the Kyocera Hydro Elite is water proof up to 3.28 feet for as long as 30 minutes.
